Good morning.
It's a final day of painting for me today. When I have everything scanned, I'll post an image of the commission I've been working on lately.

A couple of days ago, a friend of mine sent me a link to these leggings. They are amazing. (And yes, they have the moon, and spaceships and stars all over them!) I think I'm usually pretty conservative when it comes to leggings, but for these, I would absolutely make an exception. Especially since they're from one of my favorite designers of all time.
Her name is Tsumori Chisato. I found out about her on my trip to Tokyo a few years ago. The friend I was travelling with told me that we had to visit this particular shop because it was her favorite. I wish I'd taken more photos, but this was the only one I thought to take. I guess I was a little too distracted to think to take others.

Good afternoon.
Happy (almost) Long Weekend everyone!
The jets have been flying over the city all morning preparing for the air show.
I just got back from a fun and eventful morning. I won't give anything away just yet, but will report back with a fun project I'm working on shortly. (Actually, there are a couple of them, so I'll have lots to share).

I fell in love yesterday when I stumbled upon Clare Grill's work. I really admire people that can work with oils so loosely. Her work has so much movement and body. I also love her use of colour. Her palette is so rich and vivid. Her newest series of paintings portray Catholic school children in a classroom setting; a subject that is close her heart, being raised in the church herself.
I went through every painting on her site. Yep, it's love.
She's got a couple of exhibitions up currently in the Bronx and San Francisco that are listed on her site, as well as a set of two new prints through Jen Bekman's 20 x 200. I highly recommend you give her work a look. You may fall in love too.
I also ran across the illustration work of Uesugi Tadahiro. He's another great example of someone who knows how to successfully capture realistic looking light in his artwork. He uses space on a grand scale, constructing whole city blocks in his illustrations.
His work is really lovely.
As a great start to the morning, the new Anthropologie catalogue showed up in the mail! Oh joy!

Waking up to the radio today, I heard that there had been an accident along Bloor Street last night and a cyclist had died. It's all they've been talking about this morning, because the motorist that struck the cyclist is a prominent politician in Ontario. I had to turn the radio off because the host of the talk-radio show we were listening to kept going on and on about cyclists disobeying the rules of the road. I bike everywhere, and wish this city were more bike friendly.
In other sad local news, one of my favorite local bookstores, PAGES, is closing it's doors today. It's been around for over 30 years, and sold many graphic novels and 'zines that you couldn't find anywhere else.
My adventures in Roncesvalles yesterday weren't as sweet and scenic as they could have been because the street is heavily under construction. But the fruit markets were as colourful and lovely as ever, so my trip was still a success. As usual, the fruit markets were teaming with bees! But yesterday it was like every bee in the city knew where to be.
I'm getting really excited to receive copies of the children's book I illustrated over the summer. It's been printed, and will be released October 22nd. I'll probably do a draw for a book for anyone who's interested. I'm also expecting swatches of fabric in the mail any day now. I created a new design and can't wait to see how it turns out. Eyes on the mail!
