July 10th 2012

Here are some photos from the first two days of our recent trip.

The first couple are from the top of Hallgrímskirkja, the tallest church in Iceland.  It gives a perfect view of all of Reykjavík and the surrounding harbour and mountains.

The day after we arrived, we went out to the country to ride the Icelandic horses.  They were such beautiful horses!  We rode through some nearby fields and through the base of a couple of small mountains near the stables.

The rest of the day was spent driving along the ring road on the way to Vík, stumbling upon waterfalls all along the way.  Pictured below, Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss.  Everything, especially the land around the waterfalls, was so green!  It was unlike any other place I've ever been.

(If you look very closely, you can see the sheep grazing at the top of this set of falls)

  4. I love the little horsies! I cannot believe how green Iceland is! So perfect! I love the ominous clouds in the second last photograph and I trust Chris was a great navigator!

    1. I know, and they were the sweetest little things! I think that Chris and I got the perfect horses for us. Every time I stood beside mine, it would nuzzle me so hard I'd almost fall over! And Chris' never stopped eating, (or drinking while we were crossing the river!) hahaha!

Chris was an amazing navigator! And he had a gigantic map that we really ended up needing, to see all of those tiny side roads we took!

    1. It was apparently warmer than usual, (around 14 degrees most days), and sunny the whole time! In 11 days it only REALLY rained once! The rest of the time it was sunny and a little cloudy! But the breeze off the ocean felt chilly.
