In the last year, canning has become one of my favorite things to do. And for some reason, I'm always really drawn to unusual jars. I save all of my old Bonne Maman jars, even though I can't use them for canning again. I just love their fluted sides and gingham tops!

I've had my eye on these jars by Weck for ages, but only yesterday thought to check online to see if there are shops in Canada that carry them. I don't believe there are any, and I would have to have them shipped from the States, but I think it would be well worth it! They're beautiful!

One day I'll have a garden, (an actual garden, not this tiny flower bed of mine), and I'll grow lots of things and can them in the fall. What a dream!

I got my first raspberry bush yesterday. I hope it grows lots of berries this year!

  1. let me know if you order some - I'd go in on an order with you, and maybe it would save us some shipping! I've been coveting those jars for years.

  2. You bet! (We were debating getting a ton of them to can jams for wedding favours, but it may be just a little expensive!). If I do plan on getting some in the next while, I'll definitely let you know! xox

  3. Oh, I love those jars. I hope to do some canning this year. I'm growing tons of little cucumbers and more beets and lots of paste tomatoes especially for canning. I've never done it before. I'll have to get some tips from you!

  4. I'd be happy to help! You're welcome to come over one day and we can do some canning together.
I'm going to try pickles again this year. My batch last year were a bit (a LOT) too salty! And the one thing I really, really want to try, is to make my own ketchup. It sort of grosses me out how much sugar and artificial ingredients are in store-bought ketchup.

  6. I love the mold forms best! Their prices are reasonable, but yes, it must be shipping that'll get us. Let's place a group order when we've the $$$ to spend on such frivolities.

    The summer of canning......

And Sarah, I always love your descriptions! You should go to writing school instead!

  8. I have to admit, canning scares me a little. Thankfully we have lovely parents who do it for us. We actually helped them can a whole lot of zucchini relish for our wedding favours.

We just used the little Bernardin jars you can get at Canadian Tire, or a local hardware store - they're not as cute as the wecks, but they are super-affordable, and the real kicker: Made in Canada. We tried to do everything as locally as possible for our wedding.

With a little bit of fabric tied around the top with a pretty ribbon or string, they look darn adorable.

And we got raves from EVERYONE about the relish. It pleased my older aunties, and my younger friends just as equally.

  9. Beth, that's what we're thinking we may do instead, including cute little fabric covers for them. Not too sure what we'll can just yet though!

  10. I love weck jars. I got 6 asparagus jars to hold all my buttons, separated into different colors of course. Not too expensive, never buy them from stores!
